American University Basketball Teams Release Non-Conference Schedules

Yesterday, American University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams released the non-conference portion of each of their schedules:

As was mentioned previously, the women’s team will attend a MTE in the Bahamas, facing Notre Dame and Arizona State. About two weeks before that trip, they kick off the season on November 9 in Chicago against DePaul. Prior to the conference season, they will host George Washington, Marist, Virginia, and Howard at Bender Area. These are all opponents from AU’s away game schedule last year, although the Howard game was postponed and never played. The Eagles will also travel to George Mason and UMBC after hosting them in Bender last year. Villanova and Delaware round out the slate.

The men’s season also kicks off on November 9 with a game at Marist. While the men have repeat opponents from last year, there are several who they’ll face on the road for the second straight year: George Mason, Georgetown, and Mount St. Mary’s. This feels unusual. We will have to wait for future years to see if return visits ever take place, or if AU simply got a raw deal here. It could be that a heavy away game slate is normal for this program. Notably, the last time the men’s squad had more home games than away games in the con-conference portion of the season was 2016-2017.

William & Mary will play in Bender Arena after the teams met in Williamsburg last year. Additionally, AU managed to get the cancelled Siena game from last year back on the schedule for December 22. Other games include trips to NJIT and St. Francis (PA), and home tilts against U-Albany and Virginia Military Institute.

A more complete preview of the non-conference games for each team will follow in the next week or so. With 61 days until tip off, start your countdown to the season!
